What is [community profile] 100words?

[community profile] 100words is a weekly drabble challenge community originally hosted on Imzy and now here on Dreamwidth. Every Tuesday a new prompt is posted -- a word, picture, phrase, quotation -- and members are invited to respond with a drabble (fiction that is exactly 100 words in length).

Do I have to include the prompt in my reply?

No. The prompt is merely a means to get your creative juices flowing.

Seriously, what if my drabble doesn't include the prompt?

Not a problem. The prompt is merely there to inspire you to write 100 words.

What if I write more than 100 words?

Please limit your responses to 100 words in length. There are other communities for fiction under and over 100 words, such as [community profile] fic_promptly and [community profile] fandomweekly.

How do I participate?

Please post your fiction to the community, indicating in the tag which prompt you are answering. We will start with Prompt #25 because that's where 100 Words on Imzy is at.

What if I miss a prompt?

No worries! Every tenth week is an Amnesty Week, when all previous prompts are fair game.

Can I post fanfic/original fic?

All fiction is welcome at [community profile] 100words. Please indicate the fandom in your post, or whether it is original fiction. Content warnings for potential triggers, mature or explicit content, or spoilers are also expected.

Do I need to include content warnings, ratings, and spoilers?

Yes. Please see the question above.

Is there an AO3 collection?

There is! You can find the AO3 collection here and can include your work in the collection by choosing 100words in the "Post to Collections / Challenges" field.

I have a question you haven't answered!

Feel free to comment here!

Welcome to [community profile] 100words on Dreamwidth.

Notes: For[community profile] 100words , prompt #55 Slow Burn

The battle lines are drawn. Neither of you started this feud. You were born into it; cannon fodder for your elders' vanity.

You stare at each other across that divide.

Montague. Capulet.

You stare, but you do not see, and every word is a double-edged sword.

Yet, one of you extends a hand, and you are both surprised when the other does not slap it away, but holds on tight.

Enemies to allies, and friends to...

Can trust be given, then broken, and still be rebuild?

Are you both strong enough to break without losing sight of who you are?

"Why'd you come in after me?" Pete coughed hard. "Supposed to listen to your partner. Told you to hold your position. There was going to be trouble."

"That's just it, Pete. There was going to be trouble." Jim cautiously peeked around the wall of crates. A shot whizzed overhead. He jerked back. "Still out there."

"Should have left me." Pete grimaced, clutching his ribs.

"Can't get rid of me that easy, partner." Jim settled his shoulder against Pete's. "Besides, you owe me a coffee."

Pete managed a shaky grin. "We make it out of here alive, I'll buy you dinner."

"I can't believe you talked me into this."

"You look good in it."

Draco shook his arms. The sleeves of the jumper drooped several inches past his hands. "This is not my usual style, Granger."

"It is so. It's handmade. Custom. Tailored. Bespoke."

Draco leaned over the sofa. "You're reading from a thesaurus. This still is none of those things."

"So it's a little large." Hermione tipped her head back and smiled at him. "But you're going to wear it regardless because I made it."

"True." He brushed her nose with the dangling sleeve. "The things I do for you."

Title: Bath Time

Rating: G
Notes:

I opened the package and took a deep sniff. it was exactly what I needed. The first moment of pure relaxation. I added the package to the steaming waters of the bath before I stepped in. The rush of sensation as my body adjusted to the hot water is my favourite moment. I sat down to rest and soak. The soft, scented water enveloped me. I laid back and dunked my head beneath the water, the silence covered me completely. I sat up and the water ran off of me. My favourite moment of peace, relaxation and indulgence.

Notes: For [community profile] 100words prompt #52, Lost and for [community profile] theiceroyals July quote prompt. Narcissa and Draco visit Lucius after the war.

"He's the same man he's always been," Narcissa said quietly, her eyes locked on the door to the visiting room.

Draco sighed. "Not a comforting thought." He looked away as a guard opened the door and gestured them forward.

Narcissa took a deep breath. She settled her hand on Draco's shoulder. He tensed. "It's all right," she whispered. "He's still your father."

A muscle jumped in Draco's cheek. "I lost my father a long time ago."

After a long moment, she nodded. "Very well. You can wait for me." She stood and smoothed her robes. "I haven't lost my husband."

Rating: G (except that it's Hannibal)
Notes: The explicit creepiness of the last line varies depending on which season this is set in. Fortunately this is Hannibal, so the implicit creepiness makes up for it.

"Lost is an interesting word," said Hannibal. "The metaphor, of course. We speak of 'losing our way,' 'finding our true selves,' even"—he smiled—"'finding ourselves lost.'

But the literal is also interesting. 'I am lost'—it is a passive form, Will, and thus invites a question."

"'Who's doing the losing?'" said Will.

"Exactly." Hannibal leaned forward; Will shuddered at his closeness, unless now it was shivering. "Is it ourselves? But we can hear even our own breaths. It is everything else we cannot find, others who have lost us.

I promise you, Will; you will never be lost by me."

Rating: G

“Of course! The computer! We can make the motherboard with electronic elements!” Von Neumann shouted as he drifted by.

Qin Shi Huang shouted back, “Westerners always think you know best. What about this failure, then? You said you could predict the next two years.”

Wang said, “Look out! You’ll be crushed!” He gripped the telescope as it floated up, dodging black stones. Above him three suns shone hard and blistering.

“Does it matter? We’re falling up into the void,” replied Qin. “Into the bright eye of disaster.”

“But next time,” Von Neumann breathed, subtitles dancing below him. “We’ll do better.”
