Notes: Bertie's better idea for getting Jeeves to let him wear his sugar-plum coloured braces on Christmas Eve.
Aloud, I had just reached the part of ‘Unto Us is Born a Son’ when Herod ‘slew the little childer’ when it occurred to me, silently, of course, that if I presented Jeeves with his Christmas gift, a handsome volume of Spinoza wrapped in shiny red paper and tied with a bow as tartaned as the Scots allowed, a bit earlier than was our custom, viz. right then, then perhaps Jeeves would be so overjoyed that he would, as the song went:
O and A, A and O,
Cum cantibas in choro
Let our merry sugar-plum-coloured braces go
Benedicamus Domino.
