Title: Lucky
Fandom: Hercule Poirot (Agatha Christie)
Rating: Gen
Notes: post-The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (book 'verse, 1926). Conversation between Poirot and Caroline Sheppard, sister of the narrator.
“Mister Poirot, my brother was extraordinarily lucky the other night. He was dealt the perfect mahjongg hand. Flush with success, he indiscreetly let slip your clue of the wedding band. Poor Matthew! A bundle of contradictions. Lucky. Unlucky.”
“Are we not all comme ça, Mademoiselle Caroline?”
“I found pieces of something in his horrid workshop. What were they? I demand the whole truth!”
“And then?”
“I will leave King’s Abbot. Perhaps for good. Change of scenery.”
“You permit that I accompany you, Mademoiselle? I, too, require a change, a rest from the unpleasantness and the cultivation of the vegetable marrows.”
