"There's someone at the lake," the boy suddenly reported, stopping and facing the forest clearing, sightless eyes closed, face expressionless, "In danger, maybe? It's a small voice, maybe a pixie or elf..."
Small, but with a bright soul, all the more vibrant, tiny heart rapidly beating, fit to burst, the exquisite smell and taste of a dying magical creature...
He found himself licking his lips, then turned away, ashamed.
"What is it, Oddler?" squawked Peter, "Sensing any traps or ambushes?"
He shook his head. Unless my presence here is a trap, he didn't say out loud. He really hoped not.
