He spotted his quarry slipping onto the tube and slid into a carriage further down.  He remained close to the door, so he would be able to see him leave again.  Three stops later the quarry descended, and he followed.  He thought the quarry would try to lose him in the crowd, but instead he strode out, as if he wanted to be followed.  This gave Lucas cause for hesitation, but he was committed now and followed his quarry up the escalator, to be confronted at the top.

“Your birthday present will be a secret,” Adam said, “Whatever you try.”
