“I forbid you to have anything to do with anyone from that house,” Lucas’ father ordered. “We wear the white rose and they the red. Do you understand me?”
Mutely, Lucas nodded. He returned to his room and wrote a hurried letter to Adam telling him what had happened. Then he climbed out of the window and made his way into the forest to hide it in their secret spot in a tree.
He watched all night to see if his lover retrieved the letter, but he never came. He knew now a similar order had been communicated to Adam.
