Go Quietly
The children liked it when Natasha came to stay. After dinner, before bed, she would gather them close and tell them stories, Russian fairy tales. About witches, and trolls and things living in the woods.
But Daddy had one strict rule. They were never, ever, to go into Natasha’s room without knocking first and getting permission.
Never, ever were they to rush in yelling and shouting like a pack of wild wolves. That’s how they woke Mommy and Daddy sometimes. It was fun.
But Natasha didn’t like to wake up like that.
He said, Natasha doesn’t like surprises.
