With a peaceful but melancholy tune, the puppets bowed one by one, then twirled off the stage until the curtains rolled down. The stagehands were already taking down the first panels of the scenery, deactivating the equipment, winding up the ropes. After a job well done, the puppets would be free to return to their private world in the storage cupboard and live peacefully for a while longer.
Or, Headdy mused, still elated from his recent victory, he could see what was behind that one forbidden door, then never again worry what would happen if ever their shows didn't sell.
