A brilliant emerald light flared, heat searing his face, his eyes dazzled so that when he next saw his surroundings in the silent, cold chamber, every single frozen statue was thawing. Liquid carbon fell off them in rivulets, ice cracking, energy from the violent chemical reaction flaring through them. One by one, the humanoid figures inside the chambers began to breathe and move their limbs, jerkily at first, no doubt feeling all the pain and uncomprehending terror of being risen from a cold grave. Fear, confusion and vengeful fury.
One of them wore his exact face, but twisted by malice.
