Lucy slammed her palms into the wall on either side of the mirror in frustration. “I hate this place,” she whispered. “I’m all alone here.”
She looked up and met her own eyes in the mirror, thinking about how nervous she had been that morning, and how hopeful. She touched the silver necklace that had belonged to her aunt and resolutely smoothed down her braids. “No,” she told herself. “You’re not alone.”
A stack of paper on top of the dispenser caught her eye. She walked over and picked up the top sheet. With growing hope, she examined the zine.
