“He seemed very real to me,” Dolly Pantry replied.  She poured them both a second cup of tea.

“Oh, he was real in that sense.  But what he said was designed to impress and convince the unwary that he was what he claimed to be.”

“He did seem a very respectable man.  Was I at risk too?”

Miss Marple laughed.  “No, you were quite safe.  You may have liked him, but you had no intention of marrying him.”

“Oh no, if anything he seemed too good to be true.”

“Precisely!”
