I watched through the window as the lightening flashed across the sky, followed a second later by a tremendous clap of thunder.  The storm, which had been slowly moving across the countryside, had reached us and now the rain poured down with such vigour the raindrops were bouncing back up.

“A fitting end to our day,” Holmes remarked as he stood beside me.

“Indeed,” I replied.  “Although here we can be sure it will pass over and the sky will return to a more tranquil appearance.  I am not sure the same can be said for the family we met.”
