Fragments of a memory lingered in the corners of Kaine's unconscious mind. Like motes of sunlight, she knew they were there but could never quite catch one, then they drifted out of sight. A brief hazy glimpse of somebody disappearing into darkness; a few garbled words cried out urgently in a voice she recognised; a faded name that she couldn't focus her thoughts on.
A rain of feathers, a white flower woven into her hair, a child who firmly believed she'd saved her life but she just couldn't remember the battle clearly.
She couldn't remember who else had been there.
