“But, Miss Marple, Joshua Todhunter tried to save his brother,” Inspector Slack protested.  “We have several witnesses who say he shouted a warning.”

“And have you asked the witnesses why they didn’t shout?” Miss Marple replied.

“No.  Although it is surprising that none of them did.”

“Well, you see, they didn’t know Francis Todhunter needed to be warned.  But for some reason, his brother already knew the tree was likely to fall.  Doesn’t that seem at least a little suspicious to you?”

“You think we should have another look at that tree?”

Miss Marple smiled and picked up her knitting.
