“It was Eve’s fault,” the prisoner said.  “I cannot be held responsible.  She made me do it.  The sin was hers.”

Sally Donovan was about to speak when Lestrade held up his hand in warning.  Sally bristled, too many men got away with similar pleas.

“No,” Lestrade said.  “It was your action, and you are the one who will be charged.  You could have said no, so you can take responsibility for your own crime.  The sin, as you call it, is yours.”

The prisoner’s face crumpled.  “But it’s not fair,” he wailed.

“No, Mr Adams, it is entirely fair.”
