The only light in the room came from the fireplace. A bright fire flickered, casting a warm, gold-brown glow over the room that gave it the atmosphere of a sepia-tinted photograph from days gone by.
Two figures huddled on the floor before the fire, takeout containers and chopsticks at hand.
And there was chitchat. Lots of chitchat.
"You know, you shouldn't eat much more lo mein. You'll wake up with nightmares."
"Geez! I just wanted to enjoy some Chinese food and companionship. Can we manage without all the nagging?"
"Fine. I'm sorry I brought the whole thing up."
