Miss Marple pursed her lips. She was sure that someone had said something very important, but despite searching her memory she couldn’t recall it. Ordinarily, she would wait until the thought returned of its own volition, but she sensed time was of the essence. Why couldn’t she remember it? Of course, she had been thinking of conversations she’d had with what might be termed the main players, and this was something said in passing. One of the neighbours, perhaps? Miss Marple smiled. ‘The postman was late because his bicycle had a puncture.’ And the puncture was due to broken glass.
