"Mae!" bellowed Vankar from across the tavern. Most of the other patrons turned around or even jumped at his harsh military bark, "You're letting the side down! Earnest's fallen asleep and Gort's still not even drunk!"
"You can drink enough for both of us," Mae retorted, "And I'm not just not in the mood. I can't make merry while we still don't know whether Max is alive or dead."
"My point exactly. Drinking to absent friends is serious business. We've only toasted half the comrades we lost in that last campaign. Now, let's show Gort that dwarves can't out-drink centaurs!"
