“But no, my dear Japp,” Hercule Poirot said, “it was by no means unexpected that Granville would deny visiting the chemist, even though he must have known the assistant had recognised him.  He knows his cousin has been poisoned and wishes to distant himself from any possible connection.  That he had gone in to buy sticking plasters rather than something more deadly had not even occurred to him, he simply thought he must deny every having been there.”

“You can say what you like, Poirot,” Japp replied, “but it still seems suspicious to me.”

“Peut-etre, but his guilt lies elsewhere.”
