“Have you been neglected, you poor little kitty?” Stanley Hopkins asked Tilly, as she wound herself round his legs, mewing piteously.
“Don’t believe a word of it,” John Watson said. “I fed her less than an hour ago. Best tinned salmon, and she ate it all up, which is why the dish is no longer there. Your cat is nothing but a liar.”
Stanley laughed. “I am fully aware of that. I could smell the salmon on her breath when she greeted me. She’ll say anything to be given a second helping.” He stroked her lovingly and said, “Naughty kitty.”
