The ring gave a little fizzle, acknowledging her attention, but did not budge.
That told her all she needed to know.
Whispering prayers of luck and fortune for her daughter, A-Cheng’s grandmother raced to back to her own people.
They would go to Lotus Pier and see what had caused her indomitable daughter to send her cherished son down the river alone.
