Notes: Taking the kinder approach to the humbug's motives...
He'd never meant to be quite what he became. Even when he had just been a traveling salesman, he didn't go out of his way to push rotten products on people.
There was a lot of power in a Thought, and if his customers had the Right Thought, it would help them, or so he looked at it. His products just helped them Think Right.
In the Land of Oz, with his name so befitting the place, he continued that tradition, aided by sleight of hand, and his knowledge from his travels.
Yet in his heart, he knew his fraud.
