Buffy lifted her fist to knock, hesitating.
She’d left Xander and Anya’s wedding disaster trying to track down her runaway friend, but eventually her treacherous feet had dragged her to Spike’s place.
She stood at the door, fidgeting with her hands, the hem of her radioactive-green dress and shoes caked with mud. Strolling through the graveyard after heavy rain? Not a great idea!
Finally, she knocked and waited, growing anxious when Spike didn’t answer. What if he was with his plus-one from the wedding? She didn’t want to see that.
She was turning to leave when he opened the door.
He was shirtless, hair disheveled, jeans half unfastened, hanging loose around his hips.
“Slayer?”
“Um, sorry, you’re… busy. I should go.”
He grabbed her arm, stopping her from fleeing. “Dress is a tad formal for a booty call, innit? What’s up?”
“Nothing. Go back to your friend,” she snapped.
“I’m alone. I had a kip since I wasn’t expecting visitors, and you know I sleep starkers. I dressed in a hurry.”
“Oh…”
“What brings you here?”
“Xander left Anya at the altar.”
“Pillock.”
She smiled. “Can we just… talk? I could use a friend.”
He smiled back, coyly. “Come in.”
