Somewhere in the Sierra Nevada Goldfields
circa 1851
"It's just my luck," Chandler grouched, swirling a pan in the stream. "I get talked into coming out to try to strike it rich, and all I wind up with is gravel. Gold fever doesn't seem to be paying off."
Monica rolled her eyes, stirring away at a Dutch oven that rested over the campfire. "Oh, yeah? Try being me: Trained to make the finest cuisine, and I'm stuck running a chuck wagon for a bunch of gold-hungry idiots! I'm sick of making baked beans with a side of salt pork! And, if I have to make one more batch of cornbread, I swear..."
"Hey, at least you like what you do," Joey shot back, shaking a rocking box back and forth, watching water and sand slosh around. "You sure they found gold out here? All I keep findin' is this py-something-or-other. Stupid, worthless crap."
"Pyrite," Ross corrected, taking a swig out of a canteen. "And it's not completely worthless. People have been making jewelry out of that stuff for several centuries. And look who woke up," he teased, watching a yawning Rachel emerge from their tent.
"I heard someone mention jewelry," she questioningly stated, looking around at the rest of the group. "Was I only dreaming that, or did I miss an important discussion?"
Phoebe raised a hand. "I'm going to strike it rich," she announced.
The others stumbled their way over to her, hovering in varying states of anxiety.
"Did you find some gold, Pheebs," Joey eagerly asked.
Phoebe glanced around at the quintet, befuddled. "No. Why?"
"You just got through telling us that you were going to strike it rich," Chandler reminded her.
"Yeah. I am. By making marcasite jewelry out of that pyrite!"
