Dawn moved her flashlight around, making the light and shadows dance on the cave walls.
“Do you even know where we’re going?” she asked the vampire walking ahead of her.
“Course I do,” answered Spike. “Don’t you trust me anymore, Nibblet?”
“No, it’s just… everything looks the same here. Do you have a map or something?”
“Right here,” he said, turning around and tapping a finger on his forehead. “I use these caves and tunnels every day to escape sunlight.”
Dawn sighed. “I’m like a rat who’s trying to run from a manic hellgod while being trapped inside a cage.”
Spike scoffed. “Rubbish. That’s not what this is.”
“Right,” she deadpanned, crossing her arms. “We’re playing hide and seek in dank cave tunnels ’cause that’s what all the cool kids do.”
“Well… yeah,” he said hesitatingly, rubbing his neck.
Dawn’s eyes rolled skyward. “Spike. I know that Buffy asked you to keep me safe, but you don’t have to lie. I know what’s going on, okay? It’s only a matter of time before Glory gets to me. Maybe we should just let her…”
“No, we won’t!” he barked. “Glory won’t lay a finger on you. Don’t ever say that again.”
