The brief talk with Buffy had left Spike with a tug of war going on between his head and his heart. And his head wasn’t exactly in prime condition after both The First and the soddin’ chip had messed badly with it.
At least the chip was gone, and it had been Buffy’s decision. His undead heart would’ve skipped a beat if it could. She’d truly meant it when she’d said that she believed in him, and he hadn’t been fooling himself when he’d replayed those words to endure The First’s torture and brainwashing.
A hopeful smile curved his lips.
