Of course, it’s Divine kindness: businesslike and exactingly proper. But kindness all the same. “You’ve been away a long time,” the Metatron tells him—kindly, of course. “It will require some adjustment. And you’re doing so well already.”

The praise leaves him glowing every time. Leaves him wanting to tell... “Time for that later,” the Metatron always says firmly. No, kindly. “But first, let’s discuss...“

I’ll have time later, Aziraphale thinks. It’s silly to feel lonely, with Crowley just a lift ride away. But he does.
