Aziraphale stared straight ahead and tried to see anything but the chaotic swirl of his thoughts. He’d thought Crowley had meant it when he’d said he wanted things to be different. He’d thought Crowley was his friend. Crowley had claimed as much, right to the end. To the moment when he’d tried to tempt Aziraphale away from Heaven, from good. Thank God, Aziraphale thought, the Metatron had been there. Otherwise, he might have fallen for it.
