Hastings showed the latest client out and returned to Poirot.  “What did you make of him?” he asked.  “He seemed a bit gullible to me, but nice enough.”

“Me, I am always suspicious of the man who comes to consult with ‘Ercule Poirot over such a trivial matter,” Poirot replied.  “With but a little thought he could have come up with the solution I gave him.  No, he has another motive for seeing me.  I suspect he believes matters will become more serious.  And no doubt they will, for he will orchestrate them in such a way that they do.”
