"There's one thing I still don't understand," Inspector Slack said. "Why was Truman so keen to implicate his cousin, when there wasn't anything he could possibly gain by doing so?"
"Oh, that was really rather obvious," Miss Marple said. "The cousin had married the woman he wanted to marry and this was his way of getting revenge. And not just on the cousin, but on his wife, who would have suffered badly if her husband had been prosecuted."
"I suppose so," Slack admitted rather reluctantly, "but it still doesn't seem very logical."
"Revenge very rarely is a logical act, Inspector."
