I was surprised at the attention Holmes was giving a pile of fallen leaves, which he was carefully prodding with his stick. He then proceeded to gradually sweep the leaves away, until an exclamation of delight indicated he had found something. Buried beneath the leaves was a man's coat and hat.
"Watson," Holmes said, "once more you see but do not observe. To you this was a pile of leaves fallen from the tree. Yet you failed to observe that the majority of leaves are yet to fall, and so clearly the mound was composed of more than just leaves."
