That maniacal laughter still haunted his dreams, bringing with it memories of rising flames and the dying screams of the villagers who were cut down as they tried to escape their burning tents. He had lost his parents, almost everyone he knew, and then Zio had returned to kill more of his new friends, even trained Hunters. Gryz didn't understand the supposed appeal of Palman women, so freakishly lanky and hairless, but she had been a good friend and a reliable comrade-in-arms.

Now Zio lay dead on the floor, his blood on Gryz' axe, but his sister still wasn't safe.
