With a roll of her eyes, Buffy picked up her transceiver and shushed an argument between Angel and Spike about the Rome decoy that she had just revealed.
“Summers to control room, do you copy?” she asked, speaking into her radio.
“Loud and clear. Anything to report? Over,” answered the voice, causing Spike to groan in the background.
“Do you read my position?” she asked, trying hard to ignore Spike’s reaction. “We need transportation, headquarters bound. Over.”
“We have a van a few blocks from your location, I can redirect it. Is anyone in need of immediate medical attention? Over.”
She eyed the two wounded vampires, sighing. “Not exactly. Am I correct to assume that you didn’t stock up on non-human blood? Over.”
There was a beat at the other end of the communication. “Huh. You found your vampires.”
“I do not own anyone, and I don’t appreciate the contempt in your tone, Agent Finn.”
Spike started to snicker but he stopped when Buffy leveled him with a glare.
“My apology. And it’s a negative on the non-human blood. Our medical team has plenty of human blood bags should anyone need emergency transfusions. Over.”
“Copy. Updates on the van’s location?”
“It should be turning into your alley any minute now. Over.”
“Copy. Keep me updated in case anything major happens. Over and out,” she said, pocketing her transceiver.
“What now?” asked Angel.
“The van will take you to the base of operations.”
“And you?” he asked again.
“I’ll be scouting the area in search of a destroyed butcher shop to raid.”
Spike stepped forward. “I’m going with you.”
“No.”
“I’m not getting into a military van! Last time I ended up with a chip in my head.”
“This is not the Initiative, Spike.”
“It’s the Government, close enough. Not going.”
