Spike didn’t need to open his eyes to know that another night was coming to an end.
His vampire senses could feel the darkness retreating to make way for the blossoming day. His self-preservation instincts kicked in with a prickling sensation crawling down his spine, urging him to find shelter.
With a bitter snort, he finished his cigarette and shoved the stub into his pocket; he wasn’t gonna litter the ground where she was resting. He stood up and walked away from Buffy’s grave.
He wouldn’t turn to ashes today or any other day. He had a promise to keep.
