The bed is warm when Wanda wakes up, but the floor and the walls feel cold, all the doors of the house —not the front or back ones— are open, and she could hear a pin drop in the empty room.

There are frames along the staircase, but all she sees is the faded floral wallpaper beneath them.

Yet, she’s waiting for something, but she can’t figure out what.

Natasha making tea. Sam’s voice calling her for breakfast. Steve’s brow when Natasha complains about his long beard.

Something that never comes. Because her house is as empty as she is.
