Mickey didn’t like the sun, or the sand, or the beach in general. But Joseph did. He liked everything about it, so she took him there every week.

“Mom, ice cream?” He had a sweet tooth worse than hers.

“Finish your burger, then we’ll get dessert.”

He nodded, kicking his feet, still sand-dirty. Mickey had wolfed down two burgers and was halfway into the third as Joseph barely ate a third of his.

Mickey was glad the boy still didn’t developed her hunger.

A day in the beach was probably healthy, but it was still mostly about making him happy.
