She’d almost believed he meant it, until that last word. Thinks he may even half-believe the lie, though lie it is: He’s not going to die but she will, one day. There’s no “us” in forever. He’s planning for a future long after she’s gone.
How can you be so blind, she wants to scream, but she doesn’t. She holds her tongue.
He’ll be safe if he kills Cazador. But if he chooses to perform the rite, to ascend, he’ll…
