The magical mist burned as it hit her lungs.

Remembering Willow’s instructions, Buffy took more deep breaths until her body felt lighter and her essence transferred into an astral void.

Buffy staggered as she found herself in some pitch-black dimension; she could sense solid ground beneath her boots, but she couldn’t see it.

Suddenly, Spike’s form flickered in and out of existence in front of her—she gasped. He returned, then vanished again, panic flashing across his face.

When Spike reappeared, she reached for him but something was tugging at him. Maybe a curse.

Whatever it was, she’d break it.
