“Boy, this ghost town certainly is a spooky place. I get the shivers just looking at all of these abandoned buildings! I feel like a sense of impending doom is crawling over me.”
“What a ridiculous thing for anybody to say. It’s not like there’s anything to fear. Nothing dangerous, apart from rust, and maybe a few rattlesnakes.”
“You don’t know that for sure; for all either of us know, this place might be haunted!”
“Oh, don’t be such a dunce. Hauntings are impossible. Any ‘ghosts’ you saw would have to be an illusion. Or a delusion, as the case may be.”
“Tone it down! There could be dozens of them hiding all over the place, invisible in the dark and the shadows. I’m warning you: Keep talking like a skeptic, and they might gather around and take their revenge!”
“Oh, come on, already. This is a perfectly ordinary ghost town. There’s nothing suspicious anywhere. These fears of yours are never going to lead to anything! And even if anything actually came to pass, what would it be? A coincidence. Stranger ones have happened every day.”
“Yeah, well. You can talk all you want. But you’ll never convince me. Trust me, you’ll regret that flippant attitude of yours. I’ll witness Hell unleashed, if you’re not more careful.”
“I’m sure my pulse will be icy, my blood frozen solid, if you’re right. I’ll fall prey to some foul curse as lightning strikes on a dark and stormy night.”
“Right! And you’ll wander the earth forever, crushed by guilt, your crooked skepticism never forgotten by the phantoms that dog your every step--”
“You’re just making all of this up.”
“--felled by a shot in the dark! Farewell, my faithful, but ultimately foolish, friend!”
“Will you shut up?! You sound like a lunatic!”
