“So, what kind of mischief do you have planned for the team during tonight’s session,” Chandler wondered, hefting his package of dice. “Got any wild and convoluted plot in mind?”
Ross grinned, arranging chairs around his table. “You bet I do. I’d like to leave it a mystery,” he replied, “but I guess there’s no harm in telling you, since nobody else has shown up, yet.” He leaned in conspiratorially, despite that fact, and lowered his voice. “Whoever plays the hero in the game tonight is going to be blackmailed by my villain, with the help of a robotic impostor that’s been programmed to be the ultimate manipulative weapon. That little victim,” he continued, “is going to have a terrible choice to make: Steal the crown of the King, or face ruin as everyone loyal to him, or her, abandons him to his lamentable fate. Because the villain and the hero have a secret rivalry, and crushing the hero has become the villain’s obsession."
“Wow,” Chandler breathed, impressed. “You really play for keeps. Sure know how to put people in the hot seat.” Going to the refrigerator, he pulled out some drinks and snacks, setting them on the table. “So the innocent sap’s quest is to prove to everyone that they’ve fallen from grace because of a setup, before they run out of time? And it’s the impostor’s duty to make that mission as futile as possible?”
“Bingo. Hey, you want to play the impostor’s part,” Ross suggested, “since you already know about it?”
“It would introduce the element of surprise. Sure; I’ll take it!”
“Great!” Beaming, Ross went to the door, looking out to see if the others were coming, yet. “I sure hope everyone enjoys that plot twist; there’s nothing more rewarding than having a setup pay off!”
