"Any joy?" Ros asked as Lucas came onto the Grid. One look at his dejected expression made her add, "I guess not."
"No," he replied. "I waited at the supposed meeting point all afternoon, but in vain. Neither of them appeared. I only gave up when Adam messaged to say the group had all caught the train. Either they changed their plans or someone gave us false information. However, it wasn't a complete waste. By the time I was heading back the baker's was about to shut, so I popped in and was able to buy several reduced price cakes."
