She knows it the moment they are through. Vax's lifeless body still clutched tightly to her side with one arm, and squeezing his sister's hand with the other, she drops to the ground.
What has she been thinking?
Nothing, obviously. She has only reacted, to the sudden, excruciating pain. But now, as she has the time to think...
"They'll make it." Vex's shaking voice doesn't sound convincing, and judging from the tears rolling down her cheeks, she finds it difficult to believe it herself. "They always do."
Still, Keyleth swallows and forces a small smile on her lips. "They have to."
