There is no time for grief. Robbie has gone, and James must soldier on.
So when James returns to his flat to find Robbie on his doorstep, he is gobsmacked.
"Couldn't leave without this, could I?" Robbie says and carefully, with determination, kisses James.
James has waited a long time for their first kiss. It's just the right amount of want to persuade James that no, he isn't dreaming and yes, Robbie fits as perfectly as he always suspected.
"Will you stay?" he asks, trembling at the answer.
"Aye, lad."
James would rather be a lover than a fighter, anyway.
