Matthew Aidoo loved sport.  He enjoyed playing football at school at lunchtime with his friends and was one of the first outside at the bell.  So when the pains came he hated it.  It happened more when it was cold, and winter in England was always cold.  He would be stuck indoors, feeling miserable, which would be even worse because he could hear his friends playing football outside.  He hated having sickle cell anaemia and sometimes he even hated his parents for giving it to him.  But Dr Turner was nice and gave him lollies, so it wasn’t all bad.
