Title: Old Sport
Fandom: The Great Gatsby [book & films, 1974, 2013]
Rating: Gen.
Notes: POV Nick. Prose poem.

Old sport.
Gatsby’s was an old sport.
As old as humanity.
As sporting as a game of chance in a fairy tale.
Erase the past.
Make the money.
Get the girl.
Erase the past. Re-invention is older than humanity. Don’t animals shed their skin?
Make the money. Survival is the oldest act there is.
Get the girl. Adam asked for Eve, didn’t he?
Hoping is an old sport, too.
And Gatsby had an extraordinary gift for it, like none other, before or since.
But I could’ve told him,
“Games of chance in fairy tales are always rigged,
old sport.“
