Beside him, Bishop turned her head. "Can't sit here all day, boot. It's embarrassing to have a citizen report a suspicious vehicle and it turns out it's our shop."
"It's different, somehow," he said, gesturing at a ruined house. "Seeing things like that, knowing that people are devastated and scared. I can't stop thinking about how hard it's going to be out there today."
"Boot, if you can't deal when it's hard, shouldn't have become a cop. Lot of pressure in this job. Everything we do is hard." She nodded to the road. "Drive."
