Two hands touched his shaking shoulders.
“You are not a coward,” Scarecrow spoke gently.
“You have such remarkable courage throughout this entire journey,” Tin Man added, looking directly into his eyes.
“H-Have I?” the Lion asked, trembling from head to foot.
“Yes,” they affirmed together.
“But . . . “ His bottom lip quivered. “But she left!”
“She left,” Scarecrow admitted, patting his shoulder.
“But we’re still here,” Tin Man added.
“And we’re not going anywhere.” They embraced him.
