He thought he knew, at the start, what would come to him. Fame, glory, recognition beyond his name. He was certain he would be lauded, nearly worshiped. Witches and wizards would clear from his path, bow as he passed, beg him for favor after favor.
Now, as he looked at the smoke-streaked walls and the blood pooling on the stone floor, he hunched into his robes and prayed not to be noticed, not to be seen. He was wrong. There was no glory in this, no accolades to his name. Nothing but death, pain, and tears. He was wrong.
