“In olden times,” Sherlock remarked, “Superstitious locals would have looked up to the skies and predicted dire events.”

“Possibly,” John agreed, “But they’d also have had the sense to stay indoors wherever possible.  Which, I might add, is what the modern local has also done, since we are the only idiots outside in a storm a good mile from the nearest corer.”

“Nevertheless, we have found out what we came for, and the weather has prevented any whispers of what we’ve been doing.”

“Good, can we go now?  I’m beginning to feel as wrecked as the bay tree over there.”
