Amy could remember when she used to enjoy the spring: the green leaves budding on the trees, the yellow of daffodils, the pink of blossoms and the brightness of bluebells. 

But that was before the Martians came and everything turned grey.  The dust covered the world, and even the people turned grey as they died in their multitudes.

And slowly the grey changed to red.  The landscape turned a dull red; mirrored by the sky.  Gradually the world was turning into a second Mars.

It saddened Amy her son might never experience the world of colours which she had known.
